Pilot Knoll Trail
This trail, which winds alongside Lewisville Lake, is not the most scenic, but during hot, dry summers, the lake waters recede leaving a marsh and exposing gnarled trees favored by vultures. Birds dominate the woodlands adjacent to the trail. Lewisville Lake is very popular and is often referred to as Dallas’s “party” lake. In the summer months, jet skiers, boaters, and fishermen fill the waters, while the shores overflow with swimmers, picnickers, and campers. Because of its popularity, the lake is always making the news for its rowdiness, including boating accidents. Occasionally, as happened earlier this year, alligator sightings prompt even more coverage.
